The logic on Maryanne possibly killing herself is due to the fact that Maw won’t/can’t wear Lily anymore and Maryanne is strong enough to house them without rotting from the inside out. I could stretch that as Maw is an aspect of Lilianne and Lilianne is able to connect to Maryanne, maybe Maw was able to steal that knowledge? Maybe Maryanne was really tired and still suffering from grief earlier in the day (with Jack) thus her fears manifested. However, this and Maw impersonating Jack did require me to suspend my disbelief. Thomas is also more experienced and presumably could forcibly expel Maryanne from the spirit realm. I speculate that this is due to Maryanne having a loving and encouraging upbringing, with her powers just being natural for her, whereas Thomas is a product of aggression and pain.

I feel like the whole game is just about trauma, our response to it and how it can help contextualise (while not condoning) one’s actions.
